At Glebe Montessori School in Ottawa, we believe that the first three years of a child’s life are most critical, for it is during this period that the child’s brain develops at an incredibly fast pace, and emotional stability, self-esteem and social skills are established. It is our goal, under the guidance of our dedicated staff, that these young children will have unique learning experiences to further enrich their intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development.
Our beautifully designed Montessori toddler classrooms are equipped with didactic materials that have a clear and defined purpose. The enriched bilingual environment provides optimal learning opportunities in language, sensorial education, practical life, cultural activities, science, mathematics, music, art, and movement – which indirectly refine motor skills, auditory and visual development, concentration, social and intellectual skills.
A team of professional staff trained in Montessori and Early Childhood Education will provide the foundation for a Montessori education for our toddlers, in a warm, secure and nurturing environment. Our toddler classrooms are a place where each child is respected and valued, and where the joy of learning comes naturally.

What age is the Montessori toddler program for?
Our toddler program serves children from 18 to 36 months. Children typically move into our bilingual Casa (preschool) program around age three, once they are developmentally ready for the three-year Casa cycle. Placement is based on the individual child rather than a fixed birthday cutoff.
What does a Montessori toddler classroom look like?
Our toddler classrooms are prepared with child-sized furniture and didactic materials, each with a clear and defined purpose. Children move freely between practical life, sensorial, language, art, and movement activities. The bilingual environment introduces French and English naturally throughout the day.
Children in our toddler program typically continue into our bilingual Montessori preschool (Casa) program for ages 3 to 6 →
“The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. The more fully the needs of one period are met, the greater will be the success of the next.”
