Glebe Montessori School highly values the arts. Music, theatre and fine arts, taught by specialists, are integrated in GMS’s preschool and elementary curricula. Research supports the positive effects of musical training on brain and cognitive development, as it requires “focused attention, and abstract, relational thinking.” Playing a musical instrument is gymnastics for the brain, and even more important, nurtures the soul.
Believing in the tremendous potential of the young child, Dr. Montessori established that musical training can start at a very young age and is highly beneficial for the child’s personal and academic development.
We have taken music education a step further. In addition to music classes offered in our curriculum, students may enrol in private music classes offered by specialists and taught at our GMS location. GMS provides performance opportunities and private and group lessons throughout the year in piano, voice, violin, rhythmic reading and theory. Please contact GMS for more information.
